The exhibition title comes from an account by George Leigh Mallory, a member of the 1921 reconnaissance team:
'It is the property of all that is most sublime in mountain scenery to be uniquely splendid, or at least to seem so, and it is commonly the fate of the sublime in this sort very soon to be mixed with what is trivial. Not infrequently we had experience of wonderful moments...'
